A perk of international conferences

This week I’m away for work in the Swiss city of Lausanne, attending the International Society of Electrochemistry conference being held in the city. Just occasionally, you get treated to something a bit special at these things – last night we were able to witness an organ concert in Lausanne cathedral. What makes this a bit more special is the organ itself – as I understand, the most expensive organ in the world, at $7m, and one which took ten years to design – and the world-class playing of Jean-Christophe Geiser.

Of course, even organ recitals in cathedrals attended by professional scientists are not exempted from the modern phenomena which infects all concerts in the modern world…

Nonetheless, a very memorable experience!
